Does Anyone Know How I Can Get A Free Mattress? I’m Disabled, In Pain, Desperate?
I know this might be stupid, but I’m disabled, permanently, from lifting patients, collapsed 2 disks, had surgery, didn’t work, now my mattress has sink holes, I put 2 egg crate foams to pad it, it still causes me severe pain to sleep in it. I can’t afford a pillowtop mattress, heck, I’m 40 & never owned any new furniture, all hammydowns, which i was glad to get. but this, I can’t sleep in any more. since I’m now on social security, a whole $700 a month, I can’t save a nickel. Does anyone know of a program or charity that would help me? I’ve never asked for anything, but I’m desperate now, any advice would be helpful

You can try freecycle. It’s a yahoo group that tries to keep things out of the landfill and ends up serving more than that purpose. People end up de-cluttering their homes and garages and post things that they are giving away for free on this group and then people can request that item. The same goes for someone looking for a particular item. Each chapter has it’s owns rules but the general purpose of this group is to give and receive items rather than throw them away. I have seen people give away mattresses, cars, clothes, furniture, paint…….etc, etc. Go to yahoo groups and look up freecycle, then find one that is in a city nearest you and join. Feel free to e-mail if you have any questions! I don’t know if they will have one in your area, but it’s worth a try. Another option is craigslist. It’s a website where you can post items for free, to barter, to sell……etc etc. Good luck!
Ask your local church for help.
We needed a baby crib and our pastor actually offered us one.
Go to a place where they sell them and ask if they know of any programs with situations like yours. They do it for the little carts people drive. if they want to make a sell, then they may help. it doesn’t hurt to ask.
I think asking a church group may help too.
Also go to where they sell medical equipment. Sometimes people donate back theirs for the needy when a loved one is done with theirs or has passed on. That is what I plan to do with mine (walker with seat).
Call your local Red Cross or church. They are usually aware of organizations that collect donated furniture for the needy. Good luck.
check with your church if you have one or have friends check with their churches. also call your local salvation army. they may be able to give you one or will be able to put you in touch with someone who can
You can call the Salvation Army, try some of the churches in your area. Maybe someone could take up a collection where they work, many organizations etc.
do you have any friends that would help you out and give you one? you really need syour friends and family to help you out!

I would say check Craigslist.com .
They have a section for “wanted” things, and also for “free” things. check in your area and see if you can find anything.
Also i’m sure the goodwill might help.
