If you want your bed to be comfortable buy both and put the egg crate just over the mattress, then put the quilted pad over the egg crate. That way it is easy to wash the quilted pad and keep the bed clean. The egg crate stays put, and you have a very comfy bed! It’s what I do and it works great!
I like the quilted mattress pad. The egg crate “walks” on my mattress and bunches up and I have to fix it all the time and it’s a pain in the butt.
A quilted mattress pad is basically just a slightly cushiony barrier between you and the mattress. It’s more about keeping stuff off the mattress (stuff that the sheet won’t keep off). What stuff? Use your imagination. It doesn’t really make the mattress any more comfortable.
An egg crate pad is supposed to keep you cooler by allowing air circulation. It also makes the mattress more comfortable by allowing more “squish” in heavier areas, while supporting lighter areas.
If you’re looking for added comfort, the egg crate is the way to go. However, keep in mind that if you spend a hundred dollars or so on a decent egg crate topper, you might want to throw a mattress pad over it to protect your investment. Cotton (a natural fiber) is better than a synthetic product.
By the way, you might be able to fix the “walking” issue by putting a layer of the rubber kitchen shelf liner stuff between the egg crate pad and the mattress.
I have had both…”egg crate foam pad” AND a thick quilted mattress pad. I would recommend NEITHER if you want true and complete comfort, look for a 2-3 inch memory foam mattress pad. There are several different brands out there, I have the Therapedic brand and I will tell you that I have had the most restful comfortable sleep I have ever EVER had in my life. These memory foam mattress pads will conform to your body and you will sleep like a baby. Research them, if you like, on the internet and you’ll see what people say about these pads. I got mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond and it’s a 3″ pad but they also carry a 2″ pad. Linens n Things has a 2 inch pad and Kohl’s carries a 2 inch pad as well. ALSO, be sure to look for one that comes with the “protective cover” already on the mattress pad. The ones that you have to put the protective cover on are very hard to get the covers onto them. The Therapedic brand comes with a soft washable cover and it’s already on the pad and ready to put on your bed immediately. Try this, I promise you will love it!!!!!!!
Consider a wool fleece pad for just under the bottom sheet, then a talalay latex topper if needed for more softness.http://www.mattresspaddirect.com/http://www.foambymail.com/LatexTopper.ht…
both are good, just make sure they are fastened securely or your bed will look like animals have been tunneling under your sheets.
just remember how many “peas” or rocks you are avoiding feeling on your back and add cushioning to match. foam for lots of movement, quilts for firmness and moisture barrier
Naw, that don’t make no sense. That is crazy talk! Quick, you need crazy medicine, because you sound CRAZY!
I would use both, but you have to have the mattress pad with the extra deep corners. I use a mattress pad and a feather bed topper this way.
