If you have an old traditional bed such as an innerspring mattress, a latex mattress, or an air bed mattress, and it seems like it may be on its last leg instead of from the about you may want to consider the memory foam topper to put on top of the mattress. The mattress topper can bring new life to an old mattress.
Memory foam toppers tend to vary widely in density, quality, thickness, and price. But no matter what type of mattress you have now you can find a topper to fit it.
Today one of the fastest growing sectors of the entire bedding industry is memory foam. One of the problems people run into is that the full memory foam mattress can be a little pricey. So that’s why you would wanna consider toppers (which are sometimes called mattress pads) because for a fraction of the price of a full size memory foam mattress you can get a sensual a the same comfort and support with just the topper and your old mattress.
In the 1970s memory foam was developed by NASA at their Ames research center to give the astronauts a much better way to absorb the forces of gravity that they had to indoor while taking off out into and also reentering the atmosphere. The first foam they developed worked but only partially. They needed to come up with a foam that would return to its original form when are the astronaut shifted position. This was so that they can eliminate pressure points as much as possible. So the researchers came up with what’s called visco-elastic foam which is highly malleable when pressure is applied to it but also pops right back to its original form once the pressure is removed. This visco-elastic foam is also known as memory foam.
Before memory foam was created toppers for mattresses were usually made of more conventional type materials such as latex or basic polyurethane foam and they came in the form of an egg crate or the basic flat style. The problem with these toppers is that neither the latex or the basic polyurethane foam relieve pressure points which means that people can still experience discomfort and sleeplessness because of the pressure points.
Finding a memory foam mattress topper to suit your personal needs is not a difficult task as there are many options to choose from (as well as different price ranges). Although the memory foam toppers are not necessarily a complete substitute for full sized memory foam mattresses, they can really provide much more comfort and support to your old mattress. So if you don’t feel like spending a few $1000 on a mattress you can spend $100 or less on a topper.
Memory foam toppers typically com and thicknesses that range from 4 inches to 2 inches. They also come in anywhere from 3 to 5 pounds. You can find them thicker and thinner as well as heavier or lighter (it’s just a personal choice). If you’re interested in a softer feel to your mattress topper then you’ll want to get one that is at least 3 inches or thicker. However the 3 inch and higher varieties are usually more expensive.
So if you have an old bed that you’re not yet ready to throw away but yet is not as comfortable as you’d like it to be then consider a memory foam mattress topper.
